Best vintage-style dress: 1950s floral dress with cap sleeves
This retro-vintage style 1950s cap sleeved cotton floral dress from Tiger Milly is classic style in every sense. We have so many features packed into a simple clean style. This dress can be worn by just about every woman on the planet. If you’re tall, you can get away with wearing flat shoes. if you’re a shorty heels are a must.
This can be worn by fortysomethings like me and heads will turn for all the right reasons. It has a flattering neckline, cap sleeves are my safety net and speaking of nets, check out the underskirt (cool cotton with a net trim). This hemline skims the knee and will flatter all shapes. You have a slight stretch to the cotton which makes for a great fit. Shouldn’t all dresses be like this?
You’ve got vintage-lovers’-paradise details that would also appeal to non-fortysomethings. You’ve got a subtle bow, 50s cap sleeves, satin-belted, waist-nipping elegance and underskirt for added movement.
Personally, I like a splash of red with my black and white. I’d go for red heels and bag, or a white cardi/pashmina, black shoes and red bag. But hey, that’s just me. Add your own favourite dash of colour with accessories. There really aren’t any rules, do what makes you feel good.
Quite franky, the possibilities are endless when black and white are involved. Affordable too, at $51.99/£33.99, hell, I’ll even do the dishes in this dress.
A series of regular posts in which I find the dress of my day-dreams whilst researching my favourite vintage and fashion history topics. Being a fortysomething myself, these dresses are often suitable for those of us on the fun side of forty.
